Recycled plastic: Focus Webinar

Supporting the circular economy with recycled plastic

Recycling and recycled plastic are often mentioned in the same breath as the PPWR, which usually triggers a reaction: questions! What is recycled plastic? In which products and with which processes can it be processed? Are there different types of plastic recyclates? What does PPWR stand for?

Recycled plastic instead of plastic waste: extending the lifecycle of plastic

Recyclate is defined as plastic material obtained from the recycling of plastic waste. Recycling not only contributes to waste reduction but also enables the reuse of valuable materials. In a world increasingly reliant on resource conservation, the mindful and efficient handling of waste and materials is more important than ever. A recyclate consists of plastic that has been obtained from recycling processes.

This is also the goal of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations “PPWR”: to reduce packaging waste while promoting recycling and circularity by designing packaging that is both easy to recycle and contains a minimum percentage of recyclate. These requirements will increase the demand for recycled plastic in the long term, and plastic processors will need to look for suitable recycled plastic for their products. But where will they find them when there are prescribed and increasing recyclate usage quotas over time, and no one produces waste just to use it as a raw material? And what about the quality and technical properties of recycled plastics? For which products is recycled plastic even suitable?

Recycled plastic – a material with more potential than pitfalls?

In this webinar, you will learn about the different types of recycled plastics, the difference between Post-Industrial Recyclate (PIR) and Pre-Consumer Recyclate (PCR), and how these valuable raw materials are obtained. Our experts will show you possible applications for a recyclate, but they will also reveal where the use of recycled plastic is not possible or even allowed. As a special treat, our experts will introduce you to bioplastics. Bioplastics serve as a meaningful complement, but also as an alternative to recyclate, and we will explain why.

That’s why you should participate

After the webinar, you will know the difference between the various recycled plastic sources (such as PIR and PCR), understand the ecological and economic benefits that recycled plastic offers, and be aware of any limitations you may need to consider. With this knowledge, you will be able to select the optimal material for your sustainable product.
