Keeping carbon sustainably in the cycle with recyclates and biobased plastics

“Keeping carbon in the cycle” is the motto under which FKuR will be presenting its broad portfolio of sustainable plastics solutions, including bio-based bioplastics, a comprehensive recyclate portfolio and customized recyclate compounds for injection molding and extrusion, at the NRW state joint stand B4-4405 in Hall B4.

„With our bioplastics and recyclates, we give our customers the key to a carbon-neutral future and more responsible use of the limited resources we are given.“, emphasizes Niklas Voß, associate sales manager at FKuR.

For TicToys, these, along with improved mechanics and recyclability, were the reasons to switch to a bio-based, recyclable plastic from FKuR for their creative construction game Binabo.

„Our main focus is on the stability and durability of the material to ensure a sustainable and robust product.“, explains Matthias Meister, Managing Director at TicToys. The previous material occasionally fractured when the components were exposed to high degrees of tension over a long period of time.

“With the new formulation, we have now found a plastic that is both soft enough to be effortlessly assembled by smaller children (ages 3 and up) and strong enough to meet the stability requirements of the constructed objects,” Tony Rameda adds.

By simply snapping together, children and adults build their own toys with Binabo! Thus, Binabo playfully promotes creativity, fine motor skills and three-dimensional thinking.

Natural & white Terralene® rPP recycled compounds put an end to gray uniformity in recycled products

The polypropylene (PP)-based hybrid compounds of the Terralene® rPP brand from FKuR combine the ecological advantages of using recyclates and bio-based raw materials with 100% recyclability. Depending on the product grade, the recyclate content from post-consumer waste streams ranges from 30% to 60%. The bio-based share can reach up to 33%. The Terralene® rPP drop-in product range can be used in a wide variety of applications due to its good flowability and the natural or white color of the granules. However, applications are currently still limited to the non-food sector.

Recycled polyolefin compounds based on PCR

Under the brand name Macolen® R, FKuR presents an extended portfolio of recycled materials. It includes both high-quality customer-specific compounds and standard formulations based on post-consumer recyclates. All grades are characterized by low odor and consistently high quality, while at the same time meeting demanding requirements in terms of technical properties. With Macolen® R, FKuR meets the specific requirements of various extrusion and injection molding applications thanks to the high quality of the recycled raw materials used.

„Plastics care for Future“ or how to keep carbon in the cycle

The bioeconomy has the potential to provide innovative bio-based materials and packaging solutions, ensuring the sustainability and competitiveness of the European plastics industry while reducing dependence on fossil resources.

„At FKuR, we are convinced that a CO2-neutral economy is not feasible without products made from renewable raw materials. That is why we aim to keep carbon in the cycle for as long as possible with our biobased or compostable granulates and high-quality recyclates in a technologically oriented, innovative and resource-saving way.“ explains Carmen Michels, member of the management board at FKuR and responsible for production and development.

For the plastics industry, this means in particular that all those raw materials available should be used that lead to a sustainable circular economy and, above all, to a reduction in fossil CO2. In this context, the potential offered by mechanical, chemical and organic recycling as well as by renewable raw materials must be considered in a solution-oriented and equal manner.
