Dr. Martin Plum Member of the German Parliament visits bioplastics and recycling specialist FKuR in Willich
Under sunny skies, the directly elected member of the Bundestag for the district of Viersen, Dr. Martin Plum, set out to further explore his constituency of Viersen as part of this year’s #backpack tour. On Monday, August 21, he started the second part of his tour and visited the bioplastics manufacturer FKuR Kunststoff GmbH as well as the branch office of the research institute Fraunhofer UMSICHT in Willich.
The company visit to Willich, which also included a tour of the laboratory, technical center, warehouse and production facilities, focused on current challenges such as the focus on sustainability in the plastics industry, promoting the circular economy and maintaining the innovative strength of German companies. On site, Dr. Plum not only learned more about the world of bioplastics and recyclates but was able to see up close the special features and benefits of various products made from biobased or biodegradable plastics.
„We are very pleased that we were again able to address our messages and concerns in person. On the road to a functioning circular economy and climate-neutral future, biobased and biodegradable plastics represent an essential part alongside recyclates. Because in our view, recyclability and reusability alone are not enough to achieve the EU’s goals of climate neutrality by 2050 and reducing dependence on fossil resources,” says Daniel Peltzer, Managing Director of FKuR Kunststoff GmbH.
„We must take further decisive steps toward a climate-neutral future and a functioning circular economy. This is crucial for the sustainable future of our country. I am pleased that companies from our Viersen district are also contributing to this through their research and development and their great innovative strength,” emphasizes Martin Plum.
During the subsequent tour of the 7,000 m² company premises, Dr. Plum was impressed by the innovative strength of the Willich-based company, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Plum for his visit and the opportunity to personally present the focal points of our company to him.
Many thanks also go to our “colleagues” from Fraunhofer UMSICHT Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Renner, Head of Institute, Dr. rer. nat. Inna Bretz, Head of Department Circular and Biobased Plastics and Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Eisenburger, Manager Production Scale-Up and Materials Testing, for their valuable input and contribution to this successful event.
