Development and trial of non-migrating plasticizers for poly-L-lactic acid.

Project Executing Organization Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR) [Agency for Renewable Resources]

Duration June 2016 – February 2020

Funding institution Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft [Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture]

Summary The aim of the proposed research project is the product and application oriented development of a new plasticisizer class with high flexibility and low migration tendency for poly-L-lactic acid. The reduced migration tendency is to be achieved by "anchoring" the softeners via a stereo-complex between poly-L-lactic acid chains of the matrix and poly-D-lactic acid blocks of the plasticizer molecules. The materials to be developed will be evaluated with regard to possible large-scale production or incorporation. The main application area is anticipated to be in flexible film materials.
