Development of a biobased hard-soft composite material for multi-component injection moulding.
Project Executing Organization: Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR) [Agency for Renewable Resources]
Duration: December 2016 – May 2019
Funding institution: Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft [Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture]
Summary: The aim of the project is the development of a biobased hard-soft composite material for multi-component injection molding (2K injection molding). Cellulose acetate (CA) and polylactic acid (PLA) are to be investigated as the biobased hard phase. As a soft phase, biobased thermoplastic elastomers (Bio-TPE) and biobased ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (Bio-EPDM) are favored. The application for this material focuses on the areas of office articles, hygiene articles, handles, sports articles and housings.
