Development and trial of non migrating plasticizers for poly-L-lactic acid.

Project Executing Organization Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR) [Agency for Renewable Resources]

Duration June 2016 – November 2018

Funding institution Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft [Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture]

Summary The aim of the proposed research project is the product- and application-oriented development of a new plasticisizer class with high flexibility and low migration tendency for poly-L-lactic acid. The reduced migration tendency is to be achieved by "anchoring" the softeners via a stereocomplex between poly-L-lactic acid chains of the matrix and poly-D-lactic acid blocks of the plasticizer molecules. The materials to be developed are examined with regard to a possible large-scale production or incorporation. The main application area can be seen in flexible film materials.
