Summary The aim of the project is the development of a softener-free, biobased, thermoplastic vulcanized material (Bio TPV) made of polylactic acid (PLA), which is suitable for the production of calendered homogeneous, elastic floor coverings. The use of renewable resources as well as questions about the health risks of substances used, the recycling and the ecological footprint of a product are gaining in importance in the construction sector. According to today's standards, the production of homogeneous, elastic floor coverings is made predominantly from soft PVC, which only meets the increasing sustainability requirements to a limited degreee, or  does even not meet them at all, in particular the high proportion of low molecular weight plasticizers in the soft PVC flooring. Although wood-based, parquet or linoleum materials are biobased alternative materials, they are not a substitute for soft PVC in elastic floor coverings for large-area laying.
In contrast, the substitution of PVC floor coverings with the use of thermoplastically formable bioplastics, above all PLA, is an approach pointing the way ahead
