Summary: The energy transition presents our society with a major challenge. The sustainable production of resource-conserving material, which save both production and application of primary energy has a central role. Examples include high-performance insulation materials and novel light-weight materials. For the production of such materials, the foaming of plastics is a key technology. It is also necessary to replace petroleum-based plastics with renewable raw materials. Cellulose acetate (CA) is a foamable bioplastics produced from renewable raw materials, which is also non-toxic and antiallergenic. The aim of the research project CA flame retardancy is to develop a highly effective flame retardant system for the renewable bioplastics cellulose acetate (CA), which is to be used as a thermal insulation in the construction sector.
